James Blake a singer, songwritter, producer and ambient/dubstep artist has broken through the ordinary to give us a new sound. Like a modern day Burial his sound is both innovative and simplistic.
In this life it is the people who are strange, different and genrally abnormal who usually interest and amaze us these days. All three of those words aptly describe James Blake's approach to music. The london based producer/artist is making interesting and exciting music right now, leaving the norm and moving away from the average.His own brand of: minimalist-ambient-dubstep sweeps the rulebook off the table and is a breath of fresh air, especially against the influx of dubstep that is coming out now. The bandwagon in this genre is massive, with pioneers like; skream, Benga, Caspa and rusko leading by example and keeping a lot of us inspired, but with them alot of "generic" dub has followed, filling up the demand for the genre. This may mean that the temptation to follow suit must be great, but Mr Blake, with great effect, manages to approach this genre differently. So much so that his music is less him; marking out his own style, and more of him expressing himself in such a way that he is actually carving out a brand new sub-genre.
Having released about 4 EP's this new kid on the block, so to speak, is already gaining the backing of a lot of DJ's in the music industry and is set to release his second single, limit to your love, in December. The maturity and progression throughout his music over this and last year has interested people and is showing a new niche possibly for his unique sound. The ghostly yet earthy samples, the vacant and minimalistic space given to most of the tracks add a atmosphere not too often heard. This is kept in often line with quite a pacey drumbeat, not too overwhelming but often keeps the songs from going off on their own airy tangent.
All in all Blake has the world at his feet; The music is unique and different, and we are all fully anticipating anymore offerings from one of music's newest pioneers.
